Cocktail attire and shoes comfortable enough to dance in! For example:
- Pants/ Khakis with a button-down shirt (with or without a sports jacket)
- A suit and tie
- A cocktail type dress, skirt/top, or dressy jumpsuit
It's common for kids to wear tennis shoes with their dress slacks/ dresses. And yes, it's fine to wear the same outfit to both the ceremony and the celebration!
There will be dinner, a big dance party & DJ-led games, a photo booth, a video montage and an open bar for the adults.
The party will end at 10:30pm. Parents should plan to pick up their children at 10:30pm.
How nice of you to ask! The simplest and most common gift is money, typically given in increments of 18 (or adding 18 cents to the end of a check). 18 is the numerical value for "chai," which is Hebrew for "life." This symbolizes wishing the recipient a long, happy life.
Alternatively, some guests will give gifts specific to the occasion or to Judaism. It’s also perfectly appropriate to give gifts related to any of Micah's other hobbies or interests.
It is customary to bring gifts to the party, rather than the service.
Congratulations is just fine! The Jewish way of saying it would be 'Mazel Tov'. Although the timing aligns with Micah's 13th birthday, we generally do not say 'happy birthday' for a Bar Mitzvah, since this is not just another birthday celebration. This is a once in a lifetime event that has required months of preparation for Micah.
